Sex worker is well-known in India. Female Sex Worker are an essential at risk group recognized in the National AIDS control program – Phase four (NACP-4). There are different typology of FSW define by India’s National AIDS control Organization (NACO- the national structure, facilitating implementing HIV program) and including Brothel based, street based, home based, lode based, Dhaba based and highway based. More than half the female sex workers in Delhi NCR three largest cities are HIV positive – but less than one-third are on antiretroviral treatment.
Current Epidemiological Situation of HIV/AIDS in India including Delhi-
As per the India HIV estimation 2015 report adult (15 to 49 years of age) HIV prevalence in India was estimated at 0.26% in 2015. In 2015 Adult HIV prevalence was estimated as 30% among male and at 0.22% among females.
The adult HIV prevalence at national level has continued its steady decline from an estimated peak of 0.38% in 2001-03 through 0.34% in 2007 and 0.28% in 2012 to 0.26% in 2015. Similar consistent decline were noted among male and female at the national level.
HIV situation in the country is assessed and monitored through regular annual sentinel surveillance mechanism established since 1992. The sentinel surveillance started with 180 sentinel sites which later expanded to 1134 sites, covering most of the districts of the country. These sentinel sites have been established in 646 Antenatal clinics representing general population and 488 at High Risk sites, representing High Risk Population. The high risk sites areamong Injecting Drug users (52 sites), Female Sex workers (137 sites), Men having Sex with Men (40 sites) and STD Clinic attendees (248 the recent estimates using the internationally comparable Workbook and using multiple data sources (expanded Sentinel Surveillance SystemIII, IBBA and Behavioural Surveillance Survey), there were 1.8 – 2.9 million (2.31 million) people living with HIV/AIDS at the end of 2007. The estimated adult prevalence in the country is 0.34% (0.25% - 0.43%) and it is greater among males (0.44%) than The prevalence rate of HIV infection in the country has stabilized over the last few years
